At the Emancipator show last Saturday, I had a random conversation with a friend that somehow ended up around music production. We were talking synths or something to that effect, and I told him about a synth I used many years ago. In fact, it is the first soft-synth I ever used: Propellerhead ReBirth RB-338.
I got my hands on this software during my 2nd year at Virginia Tech, in Fall 1997. Back then, I didn’t own any midi controllers and had no real knowledge of synthesizer programming. I did have a growing love for electronic music. This love would shape the way I thought music – the kind I wanted to create or mess around with.
I used to mess around with this software for hours, trying my best to get the sounds in my head to match the sounds coming out of my computer speakers. It never worked out, but I did get some great ideas rolling. Ideas that I still carry with me today.
